SECONDARY SCHOOL ADMISSION EXAM PREPARATION PROGRAM FOR SIXTH GRADERS

In the Outaouais region, admission exams are a very important educational step for students starting Grade 6. The goal of the admission exam preparation program is to prepare Grade 6 students for the various secondary school admission exams they will have to do if they wish to be accepted into a private school.

Admission exams in the region seems competitive. However, over the years, they have become a source of stress. Of course, proper preparation is a must. However, excessive preparation needs to be avoided because it could easily undermine the child’s confidence instead of building it up. This is why our approach is based on boosting self-confidence rather than focussing on the need to perform.

Collège Nouvelles Frontières, Collège Saint-Alexandre and Collège Saint-Joseph suggest a guidance document, intitled “Précieux conseils”, giving useful tips to prepare the students.

NEXT PRIVATE SCHOOL EXAM DATE: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 30th, 2024

  • A detailed evaluation report after completion of the practice exam
  • Continuous support for parents and students
  • An optional summer study plan: nine fun and relevant sets of exercises to do online

SUMMER STUDY PLAN

Students who register now will have access to our online summer study plan for free. These exercises are to be done on a voluntary basis.

This summer program is offered as a courtesy to our students and an alternative to tutoring sessions, which can be expensive and not very appealing to kids on summer break.

The main objective of these exercises is to give your child an early start in developing essential skills such as memorization, inference, observation, and logic. Only 20 to 25 minutes of weekly study time are needed, and your child will also be putting into use techniques on how to answer multiple-choice questions. The first set of exercises will be sent to students on June 25, followed by a new set every Friday in July and August. One of our preparation program teachers will offer weekly feedback.

INFORMATION ON THE TEACHING OF APPROPRIATE STRATEGIES AND TECHNIQUES

Admission exams are different from the usual exams done in schools. For this reason, learning appropriate strategies and techniques is a key component of an efficient preparation. Students will learn the following :

  • How to answer timed, multiple-choice exam questions and use efficient self-correction methods;
  • How to develop good reading strategies and understand the evaluator’s expectations;
  • How to manage their time and avoid unnecessary mistakes;
  • How to relax, manage stress, and deal with their emotions on admission exam day.
